Injustice 2: New Characters Revealed

With a new trailer for a fighting game, fans are usually quick to jump on one element first: What characters are in it? That gives them an indication of new playable characters and what they can expect out of the game, keeping anticipation ever-rising. The story trailer for Injustice 2 did not suffer in that department at all, with several characters appearing, some confirmed as playable and others simply teased.

For new playable characters, Darkseid is playable if you pre-order, as announced officially at the end of the trailer. The evil ruler of Apokolips should be quite the formidable character in the game, with his unique combination of strength, speed, energy projection, and possibly even the ability to summon his Parademons to his side (please please please, NetherRealm!). Damian Wayne is back, but not as an evil Nightwing; instead, he's in a Robin costume once again, though he's still very much against his father Bruce. Those two are both confirmed as playable characters by WB Games.

Then there's a trio of villains who appear in the trailer, but it's not clear yet whether they'll be playable, though it's most likely the case. We've reached out to WB Games for comment. Regardless, Poison Ivy, Bane, and the main villain of the game Brainiac all make appearances here, as well. It would certainly be interesting to see how the new modular armor system works with characters like Poison Ivy and Bane. Poison Ivy's would probably be completely plant-based, while Bane could have different stages of Venom induction/new piping systems to install.

Brainiac, as the primary villain, will probably be an unlockable character but not playable day one. His mechanics probably have something to do with the other characters even having a modular armor system in the first place.

Injustice 2 is the sequel to the hit 2013 fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us, which saw the heroes and villains of DC Comics clashing in brutal brawls. From the minds behind Mortal Kombat, NetherRealm Studios, Injustice 2 continues the story of a world where Superman snapped, and used his powers to become not just judge, jury, and executioner over the villains of the DCU, but eventually a dictator, ruling over the world with his fist of steel. After his defeat and imprisonment, the world is trying to pick up the pieces, but won't have much time to rest as Brainiac hits the scene. Injustice 2 hits consoles May 16, 2017.
