James Wan Scouts Seaside Locations For Aquaman

James Wan is excited to get to work on Aquaman -- and he's apparently pretty pleased with how scouting locations for the film is progressing.

Sharing a photo of a boat docked outside of a small town, Wan posted the following image to Instagram, saying, "If casting is half of your directing, then location is half your photography."

There was no indication of where the village might be. Obviously big-budget movies tend to be a global concern, and such a small snapshot doesn't provide much context for anybody who isn't familiar with the area.

EDIT: Reader Karla Schmitt on Twitter says it's probably Lewes, Delaware, which based on Google Images looks like it might be right.

"I kind of don't want to give too much away but know this: The spirit that I'm going for is like a classic sort of swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high seas adventure story," Wan said recently. "It's ultimately a quest story in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Romancing the Stone."

"Swashbuckling" and using that sort of model brings to mind the fan-favorite Aquaman of Batman: The Brave and the Bold, although certainly there's no indication yet that he'll be quite that brash or jokey, considering that the little we've seen from Zack Snyder's Justice League movie is pretty aggressive and grim.

"I think Amber [Heard] and Jason Momoa, in their moments in Justice League, [are] going to give the rest of the world a flavor of what their own standalone movie could be," Wan explained. "And that is just scratching the surface of what I plan to do."

Excitement is high to see if the royal couple can replicate the innate chemistry the two enjoy in the comics, and while Justice League will be the introduction, fans are looking at Wan's solo film as the main feature.

Wonder Woman opens in theaters on June 2, 2017, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017, Aquaman on July 27, 2018, The Flash on March 16, 2018 (for now, although it's expected to be rescheduled soon), an untitled DC Film on October 5, 2018, Shazam on April 5, 2019, Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019, an untitled DC film on November 1, 2019, Cyborg on April 3, 2020, and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020.
