'Legends of Tomorrow' Casts 'Jessica Jones' Alum as Ray Palmer's Mom

Ray Palmer's family tree is growing!

TVLine is reporting that Susie Abromeit (Chicago Med, Battle Los Angeles) has been cast as the mother of Ray Palmer/The Atom (Brandon Routh) on Legends of Tomorrow. Comic book fans will best recognize Abromeit from role as Jeri Hogarth's girlfriend Pam in Jessica Jones' first season.

Abromeit is set to appear in the season's fourth episode, 'Phone Home', which will take the show's ragtag group to Ray's childhood in the 1980s. The actress first teased her appearance on Legends in a recent Instagram post, which you can check out below.

In the comics, Susan Palmer is essentially a footnote, as much of Ray's childhood backstory is unexplored. But both Arrow and Legends have previously hinted at Ray having a lonely childhood, one that is said to explain "the pathology behind [his] optimism".

This isn't the only member of Ray's family that Legends of Tomorrow has introduced. Firefly's Jewel Staite previously played Dr. Brice, Ray's great-great-great-great-grandneice, in Legends' first season. The show has also teased Ray having a twin brother, Sydney, although there's no word yet as to when he might appear on the show.

Legends of Tomorrow returns to Tuesday nights at 9 p.m., following new episodes of The Flash, in October.

Once reunited, the Legends will challenge the Time Bureau's authority over the timeline and insist that however messy their methods may be, some problems are beyond the Bureau's capabilities. Some problems can only be fixed by Legends.
