LEGO Batman Director Wants To Make Live-Action DC Movie

When it comes to Batman, there are dozens of iterations to choose from if you look into the hero's cinematic history. From Michael Keaton to Ben Affleck, a slew of actors have taken up the vigilante's cowl, but a new era is coming for Gotham's hero. Thanks to LEGO, Batman will be given a toy-rrific animated movie featuring talent like Will Arnett. However, it doesn't seem like the director of The LEGO Batman Movie is willing to stop his superhero reach there. Over on Twitter, it looks like Chris McKay just gladly volunteered to helm a live-action DC film in the future.

Just a few hours ago, McKay shared the dream with fans when he responded to a fan's tweet. When McKay was told by a fan they'd like to see him do a DC Extended Universe project, the director wrote, "It's a long shot but I'd like to be a part of it somehow. Thank you, btw."

Then, when another asked if fans should start an online petition to help McKay, he had this to say: "Thanks! That's nice…but I'm going to go in and see those guys and pitch myself and go from there…but thank you!"

Right now, fans of McKay are looking at two different projects which the director could oversee. With The Flash being rewritten, the LEGO Batman director could switch his Justice League allegiances down the line to test out the speedster. Or, if timing is an issue there, Warner Bros. is still looking for someone to helm Shazam!

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made The LEGO Movie a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker's hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

Will Arnett reprises his starring role from The LEGO Movie as the voice of LEGO Batman, aka Bruce Wayne. Zach Galifianakis (Hangover films) stars as The Joker; Michael Cera (TV's Arrested Development) as the orphan Dick Grayson; Rosario Dawson (TV's Daredevil) as Barbara Gordon; and Ralph Fiennes (Harry Potter films) as Alfred.

The LEGO Batman Movie is directed by Chris McKay and produced by Dan Lin, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Roy Lee, who worked together on The LEGO Movie. It is written by Seth Grahame-Smith and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, with additional screenplay material by Jared Stern & John Whittington, based on LEGO Construction Toys. Jill Wilfert, Matthew Ashton and Will Allegra serve as executive producers.

The LEGO Batman Movie will open in theaters on February 10, 2017.
