It's The Joker's birthday today, and Star Wars star Mark Hamill, who has been voicing the character for over 20 years now, got him what every great comedian wants: a little respect.

Sharing a fan-made meme image that classified decades' worth of Jokers by their defining characteristics to audiences Hamill thanked the Clown Prince of Crime for helping to employ him and so many other actors.

The character of The Joker appeared for the first time 77 years ago today, in Batman #1 by Bob Kane, Bill Finger, and Sheldon Moldoff. He was created by Finger, Kane, and Jerry Robinson, who also worked on the issue's cover with Kane.

The character quickly became Batman's most recognizable and popular villain, and has appeared onscreen more often than any other foil for the Dark Knight. Currently, he's being voiced by Hamill in animated appearances while Jared Leto played a live-action version in Suicide Squad and is expected to recur in the role for future sequels or The Batman-franchise films.
