Here's What Zac Efron Could Look Like As Nightwing

02/26/2017 09:57 am EST

Last week, news broke that Warner Bros. is developing a film based on Nightwing, Batman's original Robin all grown up and with his own vigilante identity.

Since then, fantasy casting for the role of Dick Grayson has run rampant. Potential candidates have included Supernatural lead Jared Padalecki and The Vampire Diaries actor Steven R. McQueen, who seemed to be campaigning for the role in the past. On the other hand, fans seem to favor the return of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who played Batman's protege in The Dark Knight Rises.

Is Ben Affleck Being Replaced By Nightwing?

Now fan artist BossLogic has thrown another contender into the arena, and that's Zac Efron, star of such films as Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Neighbors, and the upcoming Baywatch reboot with the Rock.

BossLogic put together a new image depicting what Efron might look like as Nightwing in a DC Extended Universe movie. You can see it and a lot more of BossLogic's work in the gallery below.

Nightwing already has a 4.02 out of 5 ComicBook.com user anticipation rating, making it the 11th most anticipated upcoming movie among ComicBook.com readers. Let us know how excited you are about the Nightwing movie by giving it your own anticipation rating.

Nightwing will be the live-action directing debut of The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay. Bill Dubuque, who wrote Ben Affleck's The Accountant, is working on the script.

The Nightwing movie announcement has led to significant speculation about the future of Ben Affleck's Batman in the DC Extended Universe. Having debuted in the role in last year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Affleck made a cameo appearance in Suicide Squad and will lead DC Comics' premiere superhero team in Justice League.

Affleck is signed on for the next Batman solo movie and was even going to direct the film himself at one point. He has since dropped out of directing The Batman, ceding the director's chair to War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves.

This series of events has led to some speculation that Affleck's Batman is being phased out as Affleck loses interest in the role, and that the Nightwing movie may be part of a plan to replace Bruce Wayne as the Dark Knight of the DC Extended Universe. Warner Bros. has not commented on such plans, so this remains just speculation for now. It is worth pointing out that there was a popular Batman comic book run involving Dick Grayson replacing Bruce Wayne as Batman after Wayne's apparent death in the mid to late 2000s.
