Shazam! Finds Its Director In David F. Sandberg

Earlier today reports came out that Shazam! would be the next big DCEU property, and now the film has officially found its director.

That would be David F. Sandberg, who revealed his involvement with the still mysterious film in a comment response. He also revealed it rather nonchalantly to Kevin Smith at a panel at Comic-Con.

When asked if he was working on something he could talk about he said "Shazam." Smith was caught off guard, and quickly asked him how far along he was. "It's coming along pretty well," said Sandberg. "I'm very happy with the script and how it's all coming along so it's super exciting."

Sandberg had been rumored as a top choice, but never officially confirmed. The director previously worked on films like Annabelle: Creation and Lights Out, but this will be his first major tentpole production.

Smith also mentioned being on stage with the Rock in a few years when Shazam hits Hall H, but recent reports suggest that he might not be involved as originally thought. Whether due to scheduling conflicts or something else, it will be interesting to see where the anticipated project goes from here.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder, from a screenplay by Chris Terrio, and features an ensemble cast that includes Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavill (Superman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Ezra Miller (The Flash), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg), Ciarán Hinds (Steppenwolf), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth), J.K. Simmons (Commissioner Gordon), Amber Heard (Mera), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West) and Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor).

Wonder Woman is in theaters now, and will be followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
