Splashy New LEGO Batman Image Released

Despite what some people think, Batman fans tend to keep an open mind to making alterations to the Batsuit. Well, as long as the suit doesn't feature rubber nipples and an exaggerated cod piece (Joel Schumacher!!!). Of course, for the sake of the silly and ridiculous humor that will be included in The LEGO Batman Movie, fans will give more leeway to whatever Batsuits appear in the upcoming animated film.

Though this isn't a new Batsuit per se, the latest image from the film features the Caped Crusader rocking a sparkly gold tuxedo over his traditional Batusit. What's it for?

"In all the Batman movies, there's always a big gala, but one of the things Batman doesn't like doing is going out and seeing people and carousing as Bruce Wayne. He thinks Bruce Wayne is a bummer. He'd much rather be doing Batmanny things," director Chris McKay told EW. "But fortunately Alfred (Ralph Fiennes) entices him to come out of the Batcave by telling him, 'Look, if you go out tonight to this gala, you can have a tuxedo dress-up party.' So in this shot, this is one of the many tuxedos that Batman tries in a sort of dress-up party montage like Sex and the City."

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made The LEGO Movie a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker's hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

Will Arnett reprises his starring role from The LEGO Movie as the voice of LEGO Batman, aka Bruce Wayne. Zach Galifianakis (Muppets Most Wanted, the Hangover films) stars as The Joker; Michael Cera (TV's Arrested Development) as the orphan Dick Grayson; Rosario Dawson (TV's Daredevil) as Barbara Gordon; and Ralph Fiennes (the Harry Potter films) as Alfred.

The LEGO Batman Movie is directed by Chris McKay and produced by Dan Lin, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Roy Lee, who worked together on The LEGO Movie. It is written by Seth Grahame-Smith and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, with additional screenplay material by Jared Stern & John Whittington, based on LEGO Construction Toys. Jill Wilfert, Matthew Ashton and Will Allegra serve as executive producers.

The LEGO Batman Movie will open in theaters on February 10, 2017.
