Suicide Squad Has A New Leader Now

With Task Force X field leader Rick Flag sacrificing himself during the events of Suicide Squad #19, the Suicide Squad found themselves without a leader out in the field.

Throughout the pages of issue #20, the head honcho herself — Amanda Waller — took each member of the Squad into consideration before settling on the new field leader and if you've paid any attention to DC Comics' marketing efforts as of recent, it shouldn't be a surprise.

That's right, Harley Quinn is the newest leader of Task Force X, replacing the recently deceased Rick Flag whom, coincidentally enough, she was having a workplace romance with.

Prior to the big reveal, DC Comics release a DC All Access video where writer Rob Williams spoke about the change in guard.

"The whole thing with issue 20 is going through the squad one-by-one really and gauging them and seeing who would be the best leader," Williams said. "Now, the obvious choice is Katanna because Katanna is sort of the only non-villain in the group."

Williams then went on the explain that the current arc will take readers up through issue #25 before the series changes pace towards the 'Gotham Resistance' story arc starting with issue #26.

Assemble a team of the world's most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government's disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren't picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it's every man for himself?

Written and directed by David Ayer, the film starred Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, and Viola Davis. The cast also included Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, Cara Delevingne, Adam Beach, and Karen Fukuhara in her feature film debut.
