Suicide Squad Has Serious Fri-Sat Box Office Drop-Off

It looks like Suicide Squad may not have the box office staying power that analysts thought, or that Warner Bros. had hoped for. The film's box office dropped 40% from Friday to Saturday, and the final numbers may show that the movie brought in less $40 million on Saturday.
After a record-breaking Thursday night showing, and a stellar opening day on Friday, analysts boosted their initial $140 million opening weekend projections up to $145-150 million. However, if this downward trend continues on Sunday, the film's opening weekend take may be closer to the $130 million range.
Many were expected Suicide Squad's box office to follow a pattern similar to Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. In that instance, fan enthusiasm created a huge opening weekend box office despite negative reviews, but the film saw a massive dip in its second weekend. For Suicide Squad to suffer such a large drop while still in its opening weekend is unexpected and certainly a bad sign for its long-term box office health.
