Suicide Squad Scores $65 Million Opening Day Box Office

Suicide Squad grossed $65 million during its opening day box office, dominating the current box office. That number includes the record-breaking $20.5 million that Suicide Squad grossed in Thursday night showings.
By comparison, that places Suicide Squad at twenty-first on the list of all-time opening day grosses, handily beating Iron Man 3's $62.2 million, but falling short of The Dark Knight at $67.1 million.
Suicide Squad is having a stupendous opening weekend, but it remains to be seen if negative critical reviews will cause a long-term box office struggle in the same way that it did with the previous DC Films outing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. That film opened to $81.5 million, the fifth highest opening day ever, and its lifetime gross topped out at a respectable $872 million. However, as respectable as that number is, it is still well short of achieving the $1 billion or more that Warner Bros. had hoped for.
