Supergirl: Teri Hatcher and Kevin Sorbo's Characters Revealed

It's safe to say that Teri Hatcher and Kevin Sorbo have been two of Supergirl's most-anticipated guest stars in the show's second season. While there was a lot of mystery around the pair's roles in the show, The CW has unveiled hints over time, with the most recent being that the pair are playing Mon-El's (Chris Wood) parents. And now, it appears we've gotten confirmation as to what exactly their roles will be on the show.

In official caption photos provided by The CW, it was confirmed that Sorbo will be playing Lar Gand, while Hatcher will be playing Rhea.

Lar Gand, for the uninitiated, is actually the true identity of Mon-El in the comics, with him adopting the later name after crashing on Earth. The character, who essentially functioned as a stand-in for Superman in many issues, became a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, L.E.G.I.O.N., and the Science Police.

While it's unclear if any of those groups will be associated with Sorbo's version of Lar Gand, a Legion of Super-Heroes ring was spotted in the Fortress of Solitude during Supergirl's first season, possibly connecting the Legion to the Kryptonites and Daxamites of old.

Rhea, on the other hand, appears to be a bit more of an engima. Two versions of the character have existed across DC continuity, with the first appearing as a member of the group Doom Patrol. This version of Rhea was able to manipulate the electromagnetic spectrum, but it's unclear if this will also be a part of Hatcher's character.

A second version of Rhea appeared in New Titans from 1985 to 1989, and was based on the mythological interpretation of the character. She and the other Titans are described as "an extra-dimensional race of beings once worshiped as gods by the people of Ancient Greece and whose descendants are the Olympians." With Hatcher and Sorbo's characters presumed to have been the king and queen of Daxam, this connection make sense.

We have theorized for quite some time that Hatcher and Sorbo would be playing Lar and Laurel Gand, and that appears to be pretty close to reality, with elements of DC's Titans mythology mixed in. Fans will just have to wait and see how the pair's characters reflect that in their upcoming episodes of Supergirl.

TERI HATCHER ("DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES," "LOIS & CLARK: THE NEW ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN") AND KEVIN SORBO ("HERCULES") GUEST STAR; DARREN CRISS ("GLEE") MAKES HIS DEBUT AS THE MUSIC MEISTER

A new villain (guest star Teri Hatcher) comes to National City, putting Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) on high alert. Meanwhile, Winn's (Jeremy Jordan) girlfriend, Lyra (guest star Tamzin Merchant), gets Winn in trouble with the law. Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) attempts to help Winn but old loyalties get in the way. The Music Meister (Darren Criss) attacks Supergirl.

John Medlen directed the episode written by Katie Rose Rogers & Jess Kardos (#216). Original airdate 3/20/2017.
