Supergirl: Tyler Hoechlin Teases Superman's Return In Season 3

Tonight, Supergirl will wrap its second season and bring some much-wanted action to the series with a few cameos. Not only will the finale bring in Cat Grant and General Zod, but Kara Danvers will also be joined by her famous cousin Superman. "Neverless, She Persisted" will see Tyler Hoechlin reprise his role as Krypton's most famous ex-pat, and some have wondered if his finale return is meant to signal the hero's presence in Supergirl season three. Now, Hoechlin is opening up about whether Superman will return to the superhero drama, and the actor does seem hopeful about such a comeback.

In a recent interview with IGN, Hoechlin was asked if he believed Superman would make a return to Supergirl next season. Of course, the actor could not confirm whether the DC icon would have a place in the show's upcoming arc, but Hoechlin is hoping he gets another chance to don Superman's suit.

"Hoping, hoping, of course. I have such a great time there, you know, if that opportunity comes up I would love to do so. And as far as exploring more, it's one of those things that I'd love to sit down, if that is a conversation that is had, that I would like to, you know, sit down with Greg [Berlanti] and Andrew [Kreisberg], and find again what we were excited to explore the first time around," Hoechlin said.

"I think that's what made it so fun to jump into, was having an idea of what we wanted to do. You know, I would love the opportunity to have that conversation again. There's so much left there, there's still a lot there to explore with Jimmy Olsen, you know, I don't think they had a proper catch-up quite yet about what James has been up to lately," the actor continued. 'So, I'd be very curious to see how he feels about that. So, I think there's a lot of opportunity there, and hopefully, I would love the chance to see it through, explore that. So, we'll see what the future holds."

As for how Superman fits into Supergirl's impending finale, the actor says the hero has an "incredibly crucial" role. Speaking to CBR, producer Andrew Kreisberg said Superman will service his cousin as a family member and mentor. However, there does seem to be a twist at hand. Previews for "Nevertheless, She Persisted" has shown Supergirl and Superman going head-to-head in a grudge match, so it looks like Hoechlin will really get to fight his on-screen cousin soon enough.
