The Flash: Matthew Vaughn Being Eyed To Direct

Today has been a busy day for fans of The Flash. Not long ago, reports surfaced that Warner Bros. had found a frontrunner to direct the feature. After Rick Famuyiwa left the project last year, The Flash has remained without a director - but that may soon change. Over on The Wrap insider Umberto Gonzalez reported that Robert Zemeckis was a frontrunner to direct the feature. However, the man might not be the only one being courted by Warner Bros.

According to Variety, another director has joined in on the action. Justin Kroll is reporting that Robert Zemeckis is being eyed along with Matthew Vaughn. Warner Bros. has not commented on the news, but sources have told Variety the two directors are the studios' top choices.

Over on Twitter, here's what Kroll had to say about the The Flash and its director search:

"Zemeckis and Matthew Vaughn top choices to direct THE FLASH Zemeckis' MARWENCOL and Vaughn next KINGSMAN pic factors."

For fans, Zemeckis will not be a surprising name to hear. The director was previously linked to the project last month. Screen Junkies dropped the scoop, but it was quickly shot down by several sources including Gonzalez. The insider said the rumor was not true and that no talks were on-going; However, it looks like that has since changed.

As for Vaughn, the director is a new name for fans to think over. The director will be best-known at the moment for his work on The Kingsman. The director will roll out the film's sequel later this year, so Vaughn's success with the venture will either aid or hinder his future work with DC Entertainment.

Currently, The Flash is expected to be released on March 23, 2018. There is a chance that date will be pushed back given its behind-the-scenes drama. After all, The Flash has had back luck with its directors. First, Seth Grahame-Smith exited the the project before Famuyiwa parted for reported creative differences. Since the latter director bailed, there has been no talk about The Flash and its next director.
