The Flash: Paradox Photos Bring Barry Allen and Jay Garrick Together

The CW has released their official preview photos from "Paradox," the second episode of The Flash's third season. Among other things, you can get the first look at Barry Allen and Jay Garrick, in costume together.

The reference to Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, an animated feature film that adapted the same comic book miniseries that The Flash's third season is (very liberally) adapting, seems pretty clear in the title -- but one has to wonder, given the time-travel nature of Flashpoint, what paradox exactly is being talked about.

In the comics, Flashpoint was a five-issue miniseries in which Barry Allen traveled back in time to save his mother from being murdered by the Reverse-Flash -- and his success in doing so created a butterfly effect that reverberated through the DC Universe, turning it into a desolate, violent world perched on the brink of global war.

"All of that stuff is not at our disposal, which is fine with us, because we really wanted to do something personal to Barry," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg recently said in an interview. "The stakes in the comic book inFlashpoint were global and the stakes in this episode are very much just about Barry, his existence, and the people that he loves."

And of course, that's when Iris comes in. Because anybody who has seen The Flash, knows that it's always about Iris. And anybody who has read The Flash comics knows that it isn't just Iris: whether it's Barry and Iris or Wally and Linda, The Flash always has a "lightning rod," a special person in his life that can call him "home" from the Speed Force...or wherever his adventures take him.

THE AFTERMATH — Barry (Grant Gustin) realizes the effects from Flashpoint are much greater than he thought.

Meanwhile, Barry meets new co-worker Julian Albert (Tom Felton) and is surprised by Julian's immediate disdain for Barry.

The Flash airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT. New episodes begin on October 4 on The CW. "Paradox" airs Tuesday, October 11.
