The Flash Producer Comments On If Black Flash Will Be Part Of Season 3

The Season 2 finale of The Flash is most remembered for Barry Allen's decision to go back in time and save his mother, Nora Allen, from being murdered by the Reverse-Flash, and thus setting up the Flashpoint storyline in Season 3. However, there was another potential hint at things to come, which some comic book fans may have seized upon.

Barry did finally defeat the villain Zoom, but not by outrunning the murderous speedster from Earth-2. Instead, Barry outsmarted Zoom. The Flash created a time remnant, which attracted the attention of the Time Wraiths. While Barry may have been what brought the Wraiths there, Hunter Zolomon was a much more tempting target, because Zoom had already created and murdered his own time remnant, and had been abusing time travel for some time.

When the Time Wraiths caught up with Zoom, they sucked the life out of the villain, turning him into an almost undead looking husk of his former self. Combined with Zoom's black costume, fans noticed that Zoom suddenly resembled the Black Flash, DC Comics' Grim Reaper for speedsters. Was that indeed see the birth of the Black Flash, and was it foreshadowing what is to come in The Flash Season 3?

"Obviously we did that on purpose," Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg tells EW. "We love working with Teddy [Sears]. He's such an amazing actor and amazing person, and was so much a part of the success of this show last season. There aren't any immediate plans for that, but you can't keep a good Black Flash down, so I'm sure we'll be seeing him in the future."

The Flash Season 3 premieres Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
