The Flash: One Rumored Director Would Force Film To Be Pushed Back
Today, DC fans were strung through a series of reports which left them with a touch of whiplash. After months on the down-low, The Flash suddenly reappeared today as a slew of director updates surfaced online. The director frontrunner list which Warner Bros. is courting made it onto the Internet, and fans learnt some major talented is being wooed by the studio. Robert Zemeckis, Sam Raimi, and Matthew Vaughn are all said to be in talks for the gig - but fans are feeling a bit hesitant about one of the choices.
After all, if one source is right, then the addition of Zemeckis would likely force The Flash to stall its premiere.
Over on Twitter, Variety reporter Justin Kroll shared information he's gleaned about The Flash's directorial situation. The writer, who published an article earlier today about the film's search, wrote that Zemeckis has been talking with Warner Bros. for some time.
"Zemeckis actually met in early April on this and the MARWENCOL conflict looked to be deal breaker for WB," Kroll wrote. "Zemeckis has never not wanted it but with Carell locked down, he has to do MARWENCOL this summer, no question so it would have to push."
Kroll went on to say that he's heard Vaughn's name mentioned "too much over the past week for there not to be interest" in him joining the project. However, the reporter did have a caveat for followers about Vaughn. With the sequel to Kingsman approaching, Kroll said Vaughn's attachment to The Flash may be a play for him to force 20th Century Fox to green-light a third Kingsman movie ahead of the second's debut.
As for Zemeckis, the director will be a bit pressured if he can sign onto The Flash given his previous engagement with Marwencol. Steve Carell signed on to lead the film not long ago, and the movie has been given a November 2018 release. The Flash is slated to premiere in March 2018 as of now, so it would be hard to film both projects without some overlap.
With hype riding high with The Flash, fans have little doubt that Warner Bros. wants a director who can dedicate their full attention to the feature. Zemeckis may be able to make the film work with his schedule, but it seems as if Warner Bros. is giving itself some wiggle room. If talent like Vaughn or Raimi are in, then the studio has little to worry about with its director.
That is, if the project can hold one down for good. Two directors have already left The Flash to date, and fans are hopeful that the third will be the charm.
