The Flash Season 3: Patty Spivot May Return

Barry Allen's short-lived romance with Patty Spivot on The Flash might be over, but that doesn't necessarily mean fans won't be seeing Shantel VanSanten again.

During an appearance at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest last weekend, VanSanten was asked about the chances of her character returning to Central City.

"There is a very strong possibility if everything works out," the actress said with a smile.

Obviously, in most cases, guest actors are not permitted to announce their own guest appearances, so this is as close to a confirmation as you're likely to get from somebody who isn't actually a part of the cast.

Of course, the question remains: if indeed VanSanten is back, which Earth's version of Patty Spivot might she be? There's already an Earth-1 version in plan and an Earth-2 version who was referenced in one of last year's crossover episodes. Now, with the start of season 3 being set in the world of Flashpoint, there's another Patty altogether who could pop up.

VanSanten was a recurring guest star in the show's second season, a bright-eyed and enthusiastic young CSI-in-training who had an adorably awkward romance with Barry. Ultimately, she left to finish her education, leaving Barry behind shortly after discovering that he was secretly The Flash.

Patty's education was apparently never cut short by her father's murder on Earth-2, where the character was referenced as being a CSI already. While there's no guarantee they'll spend a significant amount of time on Earth-2 in the show's third season, it's likely the world will at least make an appearance, since Violett Beane, who plays Jesse Quick, left with her father to return to Earth-2 at the end of season two and has recently been confirmed as appearing in season three.

In the comics, Patty was a forensic blood analyst in the Central City Police Department Crime Lab, introduced during Geoff Johns's best-selling run on the series.

The Flash airs on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. Season three starts on Tuesday, October 4.
