Wonder Woman #20 Features Major Villain's Return

Wonder Woman hasn't exactly had an easy ride of it lately in her current series, though she keeps her head high as she tries to do right by her newfound home. That task continues to get more difficult, however, and in issue #20 her life gets even more complicated thanks to the return of a well-known villain.

Spoilers inbound for Wonder Woman #20, so if you haven't read the issue yet you've been warned.

When a parent is desperate, they'll do just about anything for the health of their child. For Doctor Cale, that status of desperation has now been reached, and it leads her to consider some very out of the box options. Granted, when two troublesome Gods put you in this predicament in the first place, out of the box tends to take on less meaning. That leads her to procure the services of a witch, who most will recognize as one of Diana's most popular enemies Circe.

Circe rose to prominence during the George Perez era of Wonder Woman and ever since has been a notable part of Diana's rogue's gallery. She's a powerful sorcercess and as revealed in the issue already knows about Wonder Woman. In fact, she seems to know more about Diana than even Diana does, as she utilizes the power of the lasso in ways Diana doesn't quite understand, at least not yet. She has a penchant for using Wonder Woman to carry out other plans without her knowledge, and that seems to be the case here as well. How their paths will intersect in future issues is anyone's guess, but regardless of what plan she currently has, things just got a great deal more interesting.

You can view some spoiler images of the issue in the gallery, and the official description of the issue can be found below. Wonder Woman #20 is written by Greg Rucka with art by Bilquis Evely. Evely provided the regular cover for the issue, and the variant is provided by Jenny Frison. Those can be located in the gallery as well.

"Godwatch" part three! Cale launches a desperate gambit to take control of Godwatch, but her plan hinges on two factors she cannot control: the witch Circe, and Wonder Woman!
