Wonder Woman Has Best Box Office Holdover Of Any Superhero Movie In 15 Years

A wise man once said, "Can't Stop, Won't Stop" - however, it's a woman who is best exemplifying that edict at the summer 2017 box office: a Wonder Woman.
A new report breaks own the box office for the summer 2017 movies (thus far), revealing that DC Comics Wonder Woman movie - and all of its unprecedented success - has achieved yet another milestone. At almost seven weeks in theaters (at the time of writing this), Wonder Woman has show the best earnings holdover for any superhero movie of the last fifteen years!
As THR reports, Wonder Woman is on track to hit $390 million domestically, which will put it ahead of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy ($385.8 million), and setting it as the biggest earner or the summer. More importantly, Wonder Woman will earn 3.8 times its opening weekend figure of $103.3 million, which would put it well ahead of the following films in the superhero genre - each of which is considered to be one of the top milestone movies the genre has ever produced:
- Spider-Man (2002)
- The Dark Knight (2008)
- Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
As that trajectory continues, analysts already predict that Wonder Woman will end up being the third biggest domestic earner in the entirety of Warner Bros.' history, following behind Chris Nolan's two Batman movie sequels, The Dark Knight ($534.9 million) and The Dark Knight Rises ($448.1 million). That means that Wonder Woman is even bigger than the highest earning Harry Potter film, or an acclaimed sensations like Clint Eastwood's American Sniper and Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ. Needless to say, the film has already blown away any previous records for a female director (Patty Jenkins).
In a statement, WB president of domestic distribution Jeff Goldstein said, "It feels like Wonder Woman will play all the way through August. Right now, the movie is still in about 3,000 locations. Usually, the theater count would be a fraction of that at this point."
Wonder Woman is still in theaters.

Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, Princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot (Chris Pine) who tells her about the massive conflict that's raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.
Wonder Woman was directed by Patty Jenkins from a screenplay by AllanHeinberg, based on a story by Heinberg, Zack Snyder, and Jason Fuchs. Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Connie Nielsen, and Elena Anaya.
