Wonder Woman Beats Deadpool's Worldwide Box Office

08/01/2017 04:20 pm EDT

Since debuting earlier this summer, Wonder Woman has exceeded many people's expectations and become the highest grossing film of the summer. Along the way, it has surpassed the box office gross of many of the superhero films that have come before it - including, most recently, 20th Century Fox's Deadpool.

Forbes is reporting that Wonder Woman's total worldwide box office gross currently sits at $786 million, meaning it's surpassed the $783.1 million earned by Deadpool.

This isn't the first time that Wonder Woman and Deadpool have interacted over the box office, with Ryan Reynolds sharing a rather hilarious Instagram post in response to the DC Extended Universe film's success. With both films earning sequels - which are set to debut within the next two years - there very well could be more friendly competition amongst those involved with the films.

According to box office projections, Deadpool might not be the only red-suited superhero Wonder Woman stands a chance of beating. The film's domestic box office currently sits at $395 million, giving it the possibility of beating the $403 million earned by Sam Raimi's Spider-Man.

Wonder Woman has an 86.78 ComicBook.com Composite Score and a 4.34 out of 5 ComicBook.com User Rating, making it the fourth-highest ranked comic book movie of all time among ComicBook.com readers. Gal Gadot made her debut as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016. She will return as Wonder Woman alongside the DC Extended Universe's other heroes in Justice League in November 2017.

In Wonder Woman, before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, Princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot (Chris Pine) who tells her about the massive conflict that's raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.

Wonder Woman was directed by Patty Jenkins from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg, based on a story by Heinberg, Zack Snyder, and Jason Fuchs. Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Connie Nielsen, and Elena Anaya.

Wonder Woman is now playing in theaters.
