Wonder Woman: First Reaction Likens DC Film To Captain America: The First Avenger

With just a month left to go, Wonder Woman fans are growing more impatient to learn about the DC icon's impending standalone. The heroine will make her way into theaters next month and take fans on an action-packed ride through her origin story. Reviews for the film still have a hold on them, leaving plenty of moviegoers restless as they wait to hear other's reactions about Wonder Woman. However, it seems like some reactions are now starting to make their way online.

Not long ago, exhibitors were gifted with an early screening of Wonder Woman, and one of the men in attendance has given his two-cents on the movie. John Shaw, the president of Theatre Management Associates, has given fans a tentpole to compare Wonder Woman against. To him, the female-led film is one which can be compared to Captain America: The First Avenger.

"Wonder Woman: exciting & entertaining in every way. Great SFX and characters. Here's a summer blockbuster as good as Captain America ($370M)," Shaw posted to Twitter.

In a secondary tweet, the president went on to write, "Everything is timing. Strong female character. Entertaining. Great action. Let's hope filmgoers feel same way. Response on Twitter says yes."

Of course, some fans have already made the DC & Marvel comparison given the films' wartime setting. Wonder Woman is set during the first World War while Captain America is firmly set in WWII. With so much riding on Wonder Woman, fans are hoping the standalone movie will mark a turn in DC Entertainment's reputation. Films such as Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Suicide Squad have been razed by critics after their premieres. If Wonder Woman can appease its audiences, then the studio will have a solid launching pad to further expand its DC Cinematic Universe.

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Joining Gadot in the international cast are Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, David Thewlis, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner and Saïd Taghmaoui. Patty Jenkins directs the film from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns, story by Zack Snyder and Allan Heinberg, based on characters from DC Entertainment. Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston.

The DCEU continues when Wonder Woman opens in theaters on June 2, 2017, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
