Wonder Woman: Patty Jenkins Reveals Why An Origin Story Was Important

While fans met the DCEU Wonder Woman initially in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, they'll really get to know her in her upcoming solo movie, which will act as her origin story.
Creating an effective and relatable origin was why Patty Jenkins initially signed on to direct and was a significant part of her pitch. "I thought that it was very important. That's how I had always wanted to do it and had pitched that talked about that many times and then we ended up in a wonderful moment where that was everybody's ambition and everybody embraced a way of doing it which was wonderful."
A true origin story allows you to relate to a hero in a much different way, and Jenkins hopes that fans can take Diana's journey with them and implement aspects of it in their own lives. "I would say these kind of movies are important, and they're important if for nothing else to inspire us all to imagine that we could be better people and possibly strive to do that in our own lives, to be our own heroes. So I hope that she makes one feel like a hero for a moment, and I hope that that everytime something like that happens it makes someone able to make a more heroic choice in a moment that they can."

Wonder Woman hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action-adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Wonder Woman is directed by Patty Jenkins and is written by Allan Heinberg, Geoff Johns, and Zack Snyder. The film stars Gal Gadot (Diana Prince/Wonder Woman), Chris Pine (Steve Trevor), Robin Wright (General Antiope), Connie Nielsen (Queen Hippolyta), David Thewlis, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis (Etta Candy), Danny Huston, Ewen Bremmer, Doutzen Kroes, Samantha Jo (Euboea), Florence Kasumba (Senator Acantha), Said Taghmaoui, Eleanor Matsuura (Epione), Emily Carey (Young Diana), and Lisa Loven Kongsli (Menalippe).
The DCEU continues with Wonder Woman opens in theaters on June 2, 2017, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
