Wonder Woman Director On Whether Chris Pine's Character Will Return

The world can't get enough of Wonder Woman. Following the heroine's live-action comeback last weekend, fans and critics are rallying behind Diana in a big way. Wonder Woman has broken box office records in just its first weekend, leaving netizens desperate for news about a sequel. So far, no word has been given on a second film, but fans are hoping they'll hear something soon. However, many are nervous Wonder Woman 2 will leave out a favorite character, and Patty Jenkins isn't willing to assuage fans about the fear.
Speaking with Fandango, the director of Wonder Woman was asked whether Steve Trevor could somehow return in a future film. As fans know, the allied soldier sacrificed his life in Wonder Woman to destroy Dr. Poison's gas by flying its carrier plane away from civilization and blowing it up. The tragic death helped spur Wonder Woman on to destroy Ares when things looked bleak. And, according to Jenkins, Trevor's future also looks rather grim.
"All I can say is it was a dilemma," Jenkins said. "It's something I hope we don't talk about in the public [because] I want people to see, but it's very hard to know which characters will be in the next movie because of the time period, so it's a big question."
As for Pine, the actor is open to whatever the future holds - and he wouldn't be opposed to a spinoff. "The movie's gotta come out, and then we'll see," Pine teased before adding, "What about Wonder Man?"
Thanks to Wonder Woman's comic origins, there is very little standing in the way of Steve's revival. The character has been killed before in various DC comic runs and has been revived. For instance, Trevor was killed off before Aphrodite revived him in the mid-1970s. Over the years, Steve has had multiple incarnations with different names and backgrounds, but he has always sported the same face. If a future Wonder Woman film wanted, it would not be hard to reincarnate Trevor into a new decade without Diana being made aware.
Just, please let the couple reunite. Fans would not be able to handle the angst that would come out of the separation.
