Yes, That's S.T.R.I.P.E.'s Helmet on DC's Legends of Tomorrow

When DC's Legends of Tomorrow premiered last season, the DC superhero team-up had more (and more obvious) DC Universe Easter eggs than probably any other show in the company's live-action history.

Most of the really big, obvious items in the Waverider were eventually named officially in a series of posts to DC's official Instagram account, but one item -- a bulky white helmet, seen below -- was never identified.

Until now.

During a visit to the set of The CW's Frequency, Set Decorator Matthew Versteeg -- who worked on Legends of Tomorrow last year -- revealed to ComicBook.com that the helmet was in fact the head of S.T.R.I.P.E., custom-built by DC Entertainment in California to adorn Rip Hunter's time lab on board the Waverider.

Some fans had speculated that the helmet belonged to S.T.R.I.P.E., the armored identity of Pat Dugan, originally the World War II hero Stripesy, but as the helmet was a hybrid of a few designs rather than a carbon copy of a specific S.T.R.I.P.E. look, it wasn't a sure thing. Other popular theories included Orion, the son of Darkseid.

Originally the adult sidekick of teenage superhero the Star-Spangled Kid, Dugan was reintroduced by writer Geoff Johns and artist Lee Moder in 1999's Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. #1. There, he had designed himself a bulky suit of high-tech armor and teamed with his stepdaughter, Courtney Whitmore, who used the original Star-Spangled Kid's cosmic converter belt to become Stargirl.

Interestingly, while Dugan (and the original Star-Spangled Kid) are nowhere to be seen on Legends of Tomorrow, Whitemore appeared on the second Season 2 episode of DC's Legends of Tomorrow, in which she was one of the members of the Justice Society of America.

In that episode, Whitmore wielded the cosmic rod of the original Starman -- something she would eventually wield in the comics after it was given to her by Jack Knight upon his retirement.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow airs on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. Frequency, which stars former The Flash actress Peyton List, airs on Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT following episodes of Arrow.
