Destiny 2 Shows Off A New Planetoid And Open-World Activities In A Revealing Video

Like its predecessor, Destiny 2 will have more structured, intensive missions like Raids and Strikes, but it will also let you chill out and freely patrol various planetoids as well. Bungie hasn't had a lot of say about this part of the game yet, but in a new IGN First video, the developer pulled the curtain back on patrol zones, with an extensive tour of the new planetoid, Nessus.

Nessus itself is an interesting location, featuring a mix of natural forest-like environments and alien architecture, as the area has been taken over and terraformed by the Vex. It definitely all feels very alien. Of course, there's plenty of opportunities to get into trouble while exploring Nessus.

Public events are back, with several new variants being added to the game. You can also trigger "heroic" versions of these events that are a lot harder, but will grant you better rewards if bested. There are also Flashpoints, weekly patrol events that will reward you with sweet high-level gear – they're basically Nightfall Strikes, but located within the patrol zones.

Probably the two biggest additions are Adventures and Lost Sectors. Adventures actually contain fully voice-acted stories, and playing through them will give you access to new landing points on whatever planetoid you're playing on. Meanwhile, Lost Sectors are caves you can delve into that contain hordes of enemies, bosses, and chests that contain some (hopefully) tasty loot.

It definitely looks like Destiny 2 is going the extra mile to spice up patrol, and Nessus is just one of four new explorable worlds. Time to get out there and explore!

Destiny 2 hits Xbox One and PS4 on September 6, and the PC on October 24.
