Ubisoft's new pirating game called Skull and Bones was revealed during E3 and carries a strong emphasis on multiplayer gameplay, but for those who prefer their gaming experience to be more single-player and story-driven, there will also be something to look forward to in a recently confirmed story mode for the game.

If you watched the E3 trailer that was released during Ubisoft's conference, you might've noticed some similarities between Skull and Bones and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag as the characters engaged in some seafaring combat while bombarding enemy ships with their cannons. While it looks like it shares plenty of gameplay strengths with Ubisoft's previous Assassin's Creed title, this new game focuses much more on the PvP aspect through both solo and co-op opportunities. Until now, multiplayer modes were all that were being shown by Ubisoft at E3, but a representative for the company gave few details other than that there will definitely be a story mode in the game.

"[Skull and Bones] will offer a narrative campaign which will be integrated into the game and will not be something aside of the multiplayer experience," a representative said in an interview with PC Gamer. "In this campaign, players will encounter iconic characters and memorable rival pirates. More details will be shared at a later date."

It appears that the story mode will still contain some multiplayer aspects, but players can at least look forward to some missions and story elements instead of focusing solely on blasting apart enemy vessels in PvP gameplay. That's not necessarily a bad thing to look forward to, though, as the ship battles were one of the most important parts of Black Flag that helped set it apart from other Assassin's Creed games.

A 5-on-5 game mode called Loot Hunt was shown at an E3 demo, but the representative also added that what was being shown during the E3 presentations was just the "tip of the iceberg."

The beta access for Skull and Bones will be available soon, and the game is expected to be released in fall of 2018 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC
