EXCLUSIVE: Aaron Sorkin In Talks With Marvel, DC

Famed writer/producer Aaron Sorkin will be meeting with both Marvel and DC this week as the two companies look to bring his talents to their respective universes.

ComicBook.com learned while on the red carpet at CinemaCon in Las Vegas that the 55-year-old is being pitched by each, though he has no real ties to any particular property.

"I happen to have meetings coming up with both DC and Marvel," he said. "I have to go into these meetings and tell them as respectfully as I can that I've never read a comic book. It's not that I don't like them, it's just that I've never been exposed to one. So, I'm hoping that somewhere in their library is a comic book character that I'm gonna love and I'm going to want to go back and start reading from the first issue on."

Fandoms aside, having his 'walk and talk' style of dialogue added to either library would be a welcomed, and furthered, validation for the new-geek friendly culture that is currently taking over Hollywood and Television.

Marvel television is airing Agents of SHIELD, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Legion, and Iron Fist with series picked up like The Defenders, The Punisher, Inhumans, and Clock & Dagger. It is also developing Damage Control, Runaways, and The Gifted.

It is also in Phase Three with its Cinematic Universe as Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange have both been released and a roadmap with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spiderman: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel, and currently untitled Avengers film on the books.

The DC television slate currently airs Arrow, Gotham, The Flash, iZombie, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Lucifer, Preacher, and Powerless. It has orders for Scalped, Krypton, and Black Lightning with developmental plans for DMZ, Ronin, Amped, #4Hero, DC's Hero Project, Static Shock, Red, Y: The Last Man, and Unfollow.

Its DCEU began with Man of Steel in 2013 and advanced with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the Oscar-winning, Suicide Squad, last year. It has Wonder Woman and Justice League set to release in 2017 with Aquaman in 2018, Shazam in 2019, and Cyborg as well as Green Lantern Corps in 2020.

Sorkin has been active in the industry since the mid-1980s and is known for television series' The West Wing, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and The Newsroom; as well as films A Few Good Men, The American President, Charlie Wilson's War, The Social Network, Moneyball and Steve Jobs, among others.

His recent efforts have been linked to an adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird for the stage as well as A Few Good Men as a serial on NBC.
