Phil Coulson has worked his way up from being a lowly Agent and became the Director of SHIELD over the course of ABC's Marvel show.

But now the actor is could be stepping behind the lens in a new role as the Director of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD

While participating in an impromptu and unofficial Ask Me Anything thread on the Marvel Studios Subreddit, Clark Gregg revealed he is considering helming an episode of the recently announced fifth season of Agents of SHIELD.

"I may direct an episode in season 5. if I don't pass out from exhaustion just thinking about it," Gregg wrote in the thread.

Gregg would join a long list of actors who make their directorial debut on the long-running series they star in. Benjamin McKenzie, who stars as Detective Jim Gordon on Gotham, recently directed his first episode of the show during the latest season.

UP NEXT: Season 5 To Air Without Breaks, Premieres In January

It seems like the ball is in Gregg's court, should he choose to do it.

Though the show was recently picked up for its fifth season on ABC, Agents of SHIELD was moved from its timeslot on Tuesdays to run after Once Upon A Time on Fridays. Further, the show will not debut until January, after Marvel's The Inhumans wraps up its 8-episode season.

Producers recently confirmed the show will run for 22 episodes without a break, putting into question whether the show will employ the "pods" format that made up Season 4.

The latest season ended on a cliffhanger with the team being captured by a rival group of mysterious agents. Then the post-credits scene showed Phil Coulson in a space station, seemingly resigned to whatever his predicament is.

We'll find out what it all means when Agents of SHIELD's fifth season returns in January.
