Will Avengers: Infinity War Reveal A Major Drax and Thanos Connection?

Who Is Midnight?

CBR does some extensive speculation about Guardians of the Galaxy's Drax The Destroyer, and his possible connection to Thanos. In that breakdown, they recount Drax's family history, and how it could relate to the Mad Titan - or more specifically, one of his henchman.

Marvel fans just recently got a look at The Black Order, a team of galactic enforcers working under Thanos, who are made up of elite members pulled from "The Children of Thanos" - aka, young children from the planets Thanos has conquered or destroyed, who are "adopted" into the brutal teachings of The Mad Titan (see: Gamora and Nebula's story in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2).

That characterization of The Black Order is distinctly different from their Marvel Comics counterparts, and as speculation goes, there might be a specific purpose behind the change. The only female member of The Black Order is known as Promixa Midnight, a fierce warrior who is described as the greatest of Thanos' generals - with little else about her origins ever known or explored in Marvel Comics. CBR speculates that Proxima is a likely candidate to be revealed as Drax's seemingly-dead daughter, Kamaria!

Although Guardians of the Galaxy stated that Ronan the Acuser killer Kamaria, it's speculated that the child did not in fact die (Ronan was just boasting to mind-f Drax when he said he remembered killing them); instead, the girl would've been taken under Thanos' wing, and raised to be his finest warrior - every bit the fighter her daddy is.

The Marvel Precedent

This major reveal wouldn't be coming out of left field, but would instead be a twist on some established Marvel Comics history: In the comics, Drax's daughter is very much alive; she went under the moniker of "Moondragon" and was a powerful telekinetic and telepath.

After Thanos nearly conquered the universe using the all-powerful Infinity Gauntlet, the cosmic entities of the Marvel Unvierse decreed that the Infinity Gems should never again be gathered together, and split them up among Adam Warlock and the trusted members of his team, the Infinity Watch. Moondragon was given the Mind Gem to enhance her natural psychic abilities, and for a time, she served alongside her father Drax, who joined the Infinity Watch as guardian of the Power Gem.

The speculation here is simple: Marvel Studios has taken Moondragon's character and backstory and merged it with the unwritten story of Proxima Midnight, in order to set up Drax for a major character arc in Infinity War. The site even goes a step further, speculating that Proxima (and possibly her husband, Corvus Glaive?) could defect from The Black Order and help turn the tide against Thanos. In the aftermath, Proxima could shed her Black Order identity and become the more traditional version of Moondragon that Marvel Comics fans know.

It should be NOTED that this is all just speculation right now - but it is an interesting theory, no?
