Captain America: Civil War Opening Weekend Box Office Hits $181.8 Million
05/08/2016 11:40 am EDT
Opening weekend box office numbers are in for Captain America: Civil War. The third Captain America film had the highest opening weekend ever for a Captain America film. Captain America: Civil War opened to an estimated $181.8 million domestic box office, crushing the $95 million opening weekend of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the $65 million opening weekend of Captain America: The First Avenger.
The $181.8 million haul was enough to make Captain America: Civil War the fifth highest domestic box office opening of all time. In fact, Captain America: Civil War beat Iron Man 3's $174 million opening weekend to take the title of highest solo movie superhero opening of all-time. Of course, even though the movie technically is considered the third Captain America solo film, it's hardly a solo movie. The box office played more like an Avengers film than a solo superhero film.
In the superhero department, Captain America: Civil War trails only the first two Avengers films. Avengers opened to $207 million, while Avengers: Age of Ultron opened to $191 million.
