Captain Marvel Production Start Date Revealed

Most of the attention at Marvel Studios is on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Avengers: Infinity War, but the studio is known for planning years ahead, and that is certainly the case with their upcoming solo Captain Marvel film.

Not much is known about the film's plot and casting aside from the lead role of Carol Danvers, which will be played by Brie Larson. The latest updated on My Entertainment World (via ScreenRant) might have given fans their first big update, though, as it lists the production start date as January 8, 2018, in Atlanta Georgia.

The studio has been clear that they will take their time finding a director, and preferably a female one. The good news is that the 2018 film date gives them some wiggle room (though not a whole lot). As for Larson, she recently talked about the role and what it means for her to be playing Danvers on the big screen.

"I find it's really hard for me to condense what she means to me. I was once a young girl and I was confused by what a hero was and what I wanted to be when I grow up and what was important to me. And so, I think it's so complicated growing up and to attempt to become a symbol of truth and navigating through all the weird questions of growing up feels so, I'm getting emotional just talking about this, it feels so important to me. When it comes to her, I mean just the fact that she can be a bridge between two worlds, that she can go between Earth and space and that her own personal place is in this little area between where Earth ends and space begins and that's only hers is so moving to me. I'm just inspired."

Larson will be likely be a part of the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, but you can find the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe schedule below.

Next up for Marvel is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on May 5, 2017. Spider-Man: Homecoming lands on July 7, 2017, followed by Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017. After that Black Panther debuts on February 16, 2018, while Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018. Ant-Man and the Wasp is slated for July 6, 2018, followed by Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019.
