Dave Bautista Comments On Avengers Vs. X-Men Movie Hopes

Of the many characters and stories that fans still want to see in the Marvel cinematic universe, there is one holy grail as it were that would change the landscape of the universe in one announcement.

That holy grail is, of course, the inclusion of the X-Men, which would not only bring fan favorite characters like Wolverine, Kitty Pryde, Cylcops, Rogue, Storm, and Magneto into Marvel Studios umbrella, but it would also pave the way for Mutantkind to claim their rightful place in Marvel's film lore.

At this weekend's Heroes & Villains Fan Fest, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 actor Dave Bautista, who plays the metaphor-incapable Drax, was asked his opinion on Wolverine's Hugh Jackman, and if he would like to see the franchises cross over. Unfortunately for fans, his answer doesn't inspire much hope, though personally, he would be all for it.

"As a fan I would love to see it," Batista said. "Unfortunately it's always gonna be like that because the studios have a thing. X-Men vs. Avengers will probably never happen."

Well, that's certainly a bit demoralizing. His pessimism does make sense, though, as the X-Men franchise has proved to be a top earner for FOX, despite middling reviews of a few of their adaptations. The most recent entry, X-Men: Apocalypse, received similar reviews, but despite the lukewarm critical reception brought in over $543 million worldwide. It's understandable then that FOX isn't letting go of their prized franchise, but in this modern age of superhero films, they don't necessarily have to either.

Many had long let go the idea that Spider-Man would ever return to Marvel, but then Sony and Marvel Studios came to a landmark agreement that allowed Spider-Man to show up in Captain America: Civil War. There is no way that FOX would give the franchise completely over, but something similar to Sony's agreement is far from out of the question, and letting the universe intermingle with Marvel's would inject some much needed new life into the property.

In the meantime, fans can at least look forward to more Guardians of the Galaxy goodness in the upcoming sequel, which is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
