Deadpool 2 Writers On The Sequel's Growing Cast

Deadpool won't get lost in the shuffle.

Even though the sequel will feature the cinematic debuts of Domino and Cable, as well as the return of supporting characters like Colossus, Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Dopinder, screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have assured fans — during press events for their new science-fiction thriller Life — it will still largely focus on Marvel's most unconventional anti-hero. The plan is to simply introduce Domino and Cable to Deadpool's world, not have them overtake it.

"I think first and foremost it's a Deadpool movie, and then we just have to build. His supporting cast is some of the characters we fell in love with in the first one, introducing new characters into that world," Wernick told Cinema Blend. "Deadpool is a character piece, Deadpool is the leader of this very dysfunctional family. There are new people coming into that family, and there are old people that you've fallen in love with -- with the conflict between Deadpool and, for example, Colossus and NTW [Negasonic Teenage Warhead]. So yeah, it's a delicate balance, but primarily keeping a Deadpool movie."

The Deadpool sequel, which is being directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Atomic Blonde) and written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, is currently in pre-production and is expected to begin filming at the end of this spring. The film will introduce Deadpool's time-traveling mutant partner, Cable, as well as X-Force member Domino, who is being portrayed by Atlanta actress Zazie Beetz. Supporting characters from the original film — such as Colossus (voiced by Stefan Kapicic), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) and taxi driver Dopinder (Karan Soni) — are also expected to return.

Deadpool 2 will arrive in theater in 2018.
