The Defenders Showrunner Reveals The Team's Status After Season 1

Marvel's The Defenders has finally hit Netflix but what does that mean for the future of the Defenders team once Marvel fans have binge-watched all eight episodes?

Now that Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist are all aware of each other, does that mean the Defenders are a permanent fixture in New York City? Well, according to showrunner Marco Ramirez, nobody should start building Defenders Tower just yet.

"I think of them mostly as like people who were on the same bus when it got in an accident, and then they all filled out paperwork together, and they all went to the hospital together, and now they're going home," Ramirez tells Entertainment Weekly. "And it's kind of like, 'This was a great adventure to have with you, I'd be okay with seeing you again, I'd also be okay with never seeing you again.'"

Ramirez admits that there was some definite bonding that occurred between the Defenders, but not every bond is a lifelong bond.

"It's more like a bond that happens in a crisis," he says. "People are intimate now, but it's not like you'll be inviting them over for dinner every Tuesday. [Laughs] We designed it so they could go back to their individual worlds, but it's not like they're apart permanently in any way."

Certain bonds between members of the Defenders seemed stronger than the others. Iron Fist seemed inspired by Daredevil while Luke Cage and Jessica Jones made overtures towards making the effort to stay in touch better going forward.
