Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2: Michael Rooker Talks About Yondu's Cut Scenes

Michael Rooker is quite content with the screen time his character, Yondu Udonta is given in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Rooker admits that the final cut of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trimmed his role down a bit from the original script, but in the end, he feels like it was all for the best.

"Well, yeah, you know what? I'm in the first one exactly the amount I should be in it," Rooker tells UPROXX. "In this one, I think we could lose a couple of scenes, and we did lose a couple of moments and stuff and scenes, and it did not hurt the role at all. It made the role better. I got a lot to do in this and a lot more introspective kind of things going on."

Yondu's role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 should be an interesting one. As Peter Quill's surrogate father for years, the introduction of Ego, Quill's biological father, should create some fascinating tension. Rooker also touched on balancing Yondu's tough guy persona with the more emotional moments in the sequel.

"Well, that's what it's all about," he says. "One minute, you see a vulnerability, and the next minute you see the hardass – and it's a big façade for my guys. I mean, you can't run a space gang like this without being a hardass. You've got to be the hardest ass amongst hardasses. And if you're not, your ass is going to be taken over easily, quickly. And that's kind of what happens in this. That's what they try, anyway."
