Dave Bautista Praises Russo Brothers For Their Guardians Of The Galaxy Approach

Fans concerned about how Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy will fare going from James Gunn's space-faring films to sharing the screen with the Avengers under the direction of Joe and Anthony Russo should breathe a sigh of relief.

Dave Bautista, who plays Drax, shared some of those concerns at first but says they were quickly dispelled after working with the Russos.

"My biggest, pleasant surprise was working with the Russo brothers," Bautista tells Good Morning America. "I was familiar with their films, but I wasn't familiar with how they did things on set, how they directed films. My big concern crossing over was that someone was going to try to take James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy and try to turn them into their version of the Guardians of the Galaxy. It worried me a little bit because I had already done two Guardians films. I knew Drax, I was comfortable with Drax and who he was and I didn't want to take him in a weird direction that I didn't think was good for the character.

"But it wasn't that at all," Bautista continues. "They kind of just let us do our thing. They gave us free reign to be the Guardians that we know and love and also gave us the luxury of having James Gunn write for us a little bit. But I was just amazed at how supportive they were at letting us just be our characters. They were like, 'Just go for it.' We're really big on improving stuff, the Guardians are, and we started doing it business as usual and they just really go behind it….That's something I honestly just wasn't expecting, for someone to be so giving and just let us be ourselves."
