Guardians Of The Galaxy Director James Gunn Reveals Who His Favorite Comic Book Character Was As A Kid

Director James Gunn is enjoying his time playing in Marvel Studio's cosmic toybox, but even though he thoroughly loves characters like Star-Lord, Gamora, and other superhero icons like Batman and The Hulk, none of them are his favorite.
That honor is bestowed upon an unlikely but equally beloved Marvel character, one who did make an appearance in Gunn's original Guardians of the Galaxy. Gunn revealed the character in a recent Instagram post.
"As a kid my favorite comic book character wasn't Batman or the Hulk - it was actually Howard the Duck. Steve Gerber's strange blend of funny animal comics, adult humor, and science fiction was heaven to me - so much so that I had a big Howard poster on my wall for years. So, of course, I couldn't be prouder than having brought him, at least in some small way, into the modern MCU, and helping to shine the spotlight on him. Including this awesome Dorbz."
Some thought it was a bit random that Howard showed up in the original Guardians, but now it makes complete sense. It wouldn't be surprising to see the fourth wall breaking character show up again in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but fans will just have to wait and see.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017.
