Todd McFarlane Draws Guardians Of The Galaxy's Baby Groot

When Guardians of the Galaxy hit big screens in 2014, there was a lot to love. The warmth and humor combined with trademark Marvel Universe-threatening stakes catapulted this rag-tag group of heroes into many fans hearts.

But before the film—even with the contributions of Marvel's Brian Bendis in the comics and their participation in the cult-favorite events Annihilation and its sequel—not many knew who the Guardians were.

And they probably didn't know that comics superstar and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane actually worked on the team book with Jim Starlin in the '90s. While it wasn't the current iteration of team members, it did include some familiar faces like Yondu.

McFarlane recently paid homage to both Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and his time on the series with a live drawing broadcasted on his Facebook page. While he could have drawn one of the original team members that he helped work on, he instead turned his masterful eye toward one of the fan-favorites from the new film—Baby Groot.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
