James Gunn Cut A Major Cameo From 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2'

Director James Gunn's latest film pushed Marvel's space-faring team on an exciting new adventure that once again endangered the entire universe, but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 left a lot of aspects from the first film in the past.

And though one scene in the sequel took place on the Nova Corps' home planet of Xandar, we didn't get to see any of the characters in the peace-keeping organization. But Gunn did reveal that one major cameo was cut from the movie, despite being filmed.

Gunn answered a fan's question on social media about the possibility of Glenn Close reprising her role as Nova Prime.

The cameo would have presumably taken place when Ego's flowers began to bloom and take over the planets where they were planted. Earth was heavily featured in the segment, but Xandar popped up too.

Given that no one know the exact nature or source of the threat, she's probably be freaking out.

Fans have been wondering if and when the Nova Corps and Nova Prime would pop up again, especially with the looming threat of Thanos and his quest to obtain every Infinity Stone.

In Guardians Of The Galaxy, all of the various factions were attempting to get their hands on the Orb. The Collector revealed that the artifact housed an Infinity Stone — the Power Stone, to be specific — and by the movie's end it was given to Nova Prime for safe keeping.

Perhaps Close will pop up for a cameo in Avengers: Infinity War or maybe even Thor: Ragnarok, just in time to see complete and utter annihilation at the hands of Thanos and the Black Order. Or maybe they'll just hand-wave the whole thing away and reveal the planet was destroyed in exposition. Who knows!

Close's cameo likely had nothing to do with the Infinity Stones considering Gunn's second installment in the franchise remained isolated from many of the events in the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Hopefully we get to see it at some point in the future for a re-release in the film, or perhaps as part of the special features for the Phase 3 box set.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD.
