Tim Roth Doesn't Think He'll Ever Play Abomination For Marvel Again

Few villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have staying power. Most of the Marvel Studios bad guys bite the dust while the others end up in prison or confined to their home dimension, but only Loki and Crossbones have managed to remain a threat throughout multiple films — and one of them died in their second appearance. Thanos doesn't count at this point since he hasn't been the main antagonist.

One surviving villain, The Incredible Hulk's Abomination, hasn't been seen since that first film appearance, and the actor who played the character doubts he'll ever appear on screen again.

Tim Roth recently took part in a Reddit Ask Me Anything thread and when a fan wondered if he would appear in a future Marvel movie, Roth was not optimistic.

"I don't think Marvel will ever use me again, but it would be fun," Roth wrote in response.

The actor portrayed Emil Blonsky, who undergoes an experimental procedure to make him strong enough to be able to take on the Hulk. The experiment involved mixing a version of the super soldier serum with Banner's blood, which ends up turning him into the titular abomination. After battling with Hulk multiple times, he is taken into S.H.I.E.L.D. custody and barely mentioned again.

It's cool that the actor would be up for reprising the role and that Marvel has him on the shelf should they ever need to bring the character back into play, but the reality is there are way too many villains out there to explore.

Why would they bring him back unless it made sense for the story? And given that Marvel Studios has to work with Paramount Pictures to make a Hulk-centric movie — instead of just having the character appear in another film — there's little reason to bring the Abomination back.

Maybe the future will change the situation, but at this time, the Abomination might as well be in the same class as the Red Skull, Ronan the Destroyer, and Yellowjacket.

The Hulk will next appear in Thor: Ragnarok.

In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first, he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – The Incredible Hulk!

Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi from a screenplay by Eric Pearson, and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo, and Anthony Hopkins.

Thor: Ragnarok opens in theaters on November 3, 2017.
