Iron Fist Star Recalls His Painful On-Set Injuries

When Marvel's latest series premieres on Netflix in a few short weeks we'll get to see Danny Rand's journey as he becomes an Immortal Weapon, the Iron Fist.

And even though the character trains in K'un Lun for over a decade, actor Finn Jones didn't get such a luxury. He had to learn everything before filming began.

Luckily the actor doesn't need to have iron fists himself, but he did learn the basics of kung fu, t'ai chi, and wushu.

While speaking with Empire about the show's physical fight scenes, Jones described the interactions like a routine.

"It's about choreography, because really you're doing a dance. You're learning the steps and working with your partner," Jones said.

But it's still dangerous dancing, and not without injuries.

"When you're in the midst of fights your adrenaline's so pumped you don't think about what you're doing to your body until you wake up the next day and think, 'F**king hell!'" Jones said.

He revealed that he pulled a muscle in his groin while filming scenes, but downplayed the pain just like you'd expect a budding superhero to.

"It comes with the territory," Jones said. "If you're doing two or three fights per week for six months you're going to get some injuries."

Jones revealed before that his character cannot yet refer to himself as a superhero, and that he has to earn the right to be called the Iron Fist. If this series is anything like Daredevil, we'll probably see Rand get his ass kicked—and kick a bunch more asses in kind—on his way to being a full fledged Defender before he teams up with the other Netflix heroes.

Fifteen years after being presumed dead in a plane crash, Danny Rand (Finn Jones) mysteriously returns to New York City determined to reclaim his birthright and family company. However, when a long-destined enemy rises in New York, this living weapon is forced to choose between his family's legacy and his duties as the Iron Fist.

Marvel's Iron Fist was developed by Scott Buck. The Netflix series stars Finn Jones as Danny Rand, a martial arts expert with the ability to call upon the power of the Iron Fist. The cast also includes Jessica Henwick, David Wenham, Jessica Stroup, Tom Pelphrey, and Rosario Dawson.

Marvel's Iron Fist premieres on Netflix March 17.
