James Gunn Addresses Whether Or Not Peter Quill Speaks English Anymore

During the PR interviews around Guardians of the Galaxy, writer/director James Gunn made it pretty clear that the Guardians used translators that allowed them to understand one another, and simply appear to speak English.

Last month, that topic came up again, when fans wondered how the aliens of Guardians of the Galaxy would communicate with The Avengers in the forthcoming Avengers: Infinity War.

Today, a fan asked about the translators again on Twitter, and Gunn clarified that even Star-Lord, the lone human among the Guardians, likely doesn't speak English anymore, since he hasn't been on Earth since he was a child.

Gunn did not make a definitive statement that Peter Quill doesn't speak English anymore, but merely by bringing it up, relatively unbidden, the implication is clearly that he does not. "He spoke English as a child, obviously," Gunn said.

Gunn is currently working on the screenplay for Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 while the movie's stars are all making their appearances on the Infinity War set.

Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2, meanwhile, is set for a digital release next Tuesday, with a Blu-ray/DVD release following two weeks later.
