One Hollywood Director Is Beyond Bored With Marvel Movies

In the decade Marvel Studios has been cranking out films as a part of their expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe, the movie studio has released projects that focused anywhere from the origin of Steve Rogers as Captain America all the way across the cosmos as they the relatively-unknown ragtag group of misfits known as the Guardians of the Galaxy were brought to live action.

Though the debut dozens of characters, from all corners of the Marvel comic book universe, in the MCU is enough to make comic readers across the glove giddy, one of the most consistent criticisms of the shared cinematic universe is the recurrence of chaos and destruction of massive proportions.

Now, even director John Landis wants to get in on the criticisms, going to the length to say he's "bored s--tless" with what Marvel Studios is doing with their movies.

"I'm just… truthfully, I'm bored s--tless with the Marvel Universe now. All the superhero movies tend to be interchangeable, you always have these mass destruction of cities and huge computer-generated extravaganzas to the point where you could take a reel from any of the Marvel superhero movies and put it any of the others and nobody would notice," the Animal House director The Irish Times. "They're very well-made, it's just they're the same thing over and over again. But, I don't know, people are showing up."

Luckily for Marvel Studios' closest competitor Warner Brothers, Landis spoke highly of their latest entry into the DC Extended Universe, Wonder Woman.

"One of the reasons Wonder Woman has been received so well by the critics is that it doesn't destroy cities! [Laughs] Even the superhero stuff is on a very human scale, it's the gods! We're not seeing skyscrapers tumbling"

While this particular director might be tired of the MCU at its current state, fans should be impressed with what Marvel Studios has created. Although they started their world off with the traditional heroes like Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and the Hulk, Marvel has expanded to the point where they've been able to open up whole new corners of their cinematic universe with the inclusion of characters like Doctor Strange and the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Next on the slate for Marvel is a combined effort with Sony on Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is slated for release on July 7, 2017.

The cast features Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Logan Marshall-Green, and Marisa Tomei.

The film is being directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car), based on a screenplay by Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley (Vacation reboot) and Jon Watts & Christopher Ford and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers.
