Kevin Feige & James Gunn Reveal When Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Picks Up

It's been three years since Guardians of the Galaxy was released in theaters. When the sequel hits theaters, the time which has passed will also be considerable and it has been good to the Guardians.

As Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige puts it, the team have all but become celebrities in the cosmic corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for their accomplishments in the first film. Speaking to press on the set of the upcoming Vol. 2, Feige and director James Gunn revealed when, where, and how the film picks up - which is all "a couple of months" after the original's conclusion.

To no surprise, they are trying to capitalize on their stardom and make some money off of their ability to take on threats average people cannot.

"I think they're giving it a shot at being more organized heroes," Feige said. "They are, they are available for do-gooding, so to speak. It doesn't always good well, but they try that. And when we first meet them, in the beginning of the movie, they're on a place called Sovereign, where they've been asked to help with this giant sort of interdimensional beast that comes out and eats their batteries, their power source, and wreaks havoc on the planet, and the Guardians have been asked to come in and dispatch with that thing, and that's how our film starts. And their legend and their mythology has grown and spread throughout the universe, because they defeated Ronan and because they were able to hold, Peter, in particular was able to hold an Infinity Stone and not die, which also has spread his legend."

While Feige focused on describing their fame through the galaxy, Gunn's perspective is more intimately tied to the personalities and relationships of the Guardians.

"I think because they're just such fragile egos, and they're so combustible that this is really the time," Gunn said. "I think they'd have problems with each other pretty instantly."

"You ask me why I do these things, I don't know why," Gunn said. "Seemed funny when I was writing it. It's what came up, and I thought about it being later and I think a lot of it was the Groot thing as well. When I first started thinking about it, when I was jotting down ideas, I thought Groot was maybe going to be an adult. And I thought 'God, what if I just make Groot a baby for the whole movie. Like he's a baby.' And I think that just felt right. So a lot of it had to do with that."
