Kurt Russell Reveals His Relationship With Mantis In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

Fans were surprised when Kurt Russell joined the cast, especially when they found he was playing Ego The Living Planet.

Granted, he's not actually going to look like a planet in the film, but it was still shocking to see the character included at all, nonetheless with someone like Russell attached. Even more surprising is that fan-favorite Guardians member Mantis enters the film alongside Russell's character.

At a recent visit to the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, ComicBook.com asked Russell about what his relationship to Mantis (played by Pom Klementieff) is when the film beings. His answer indicates it's quite important, but Russell tries his best not to give anything away.

"Yeah, what she is to me? That's not good, actually. No. It's so hard. It really is. It's really weird, and it's great fun to talk about. That's what's tough about it. I don't think I should. I don't think I should. I mean, she's an important player, and her relationship to me and to the movie is an important one, so they're all important. He knows the rocks he's lifting, and put that back underneath there and we'll get to that in the third act. He's got a very full painter's palette. It's very intricate. It's pretty intricate. You're going to kind of go, "Wait a minute. That means if that person's that and that person's over there, that means too late." It's like, whoops. S***. So he makes you watch and think and points to the future a little bit and says, "There's a lot to this story and to these relationships." And unfortunately, I can't answer your question, really.

While that's not a lot to go on, it does mean she will be rather important to the film's plot if he's being so cagey about it. What that importance consists of, well, that remains to be seen.

Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin.
