Legion: Chapter 4 Preview Released

FX's Legion continues to impress, with its surreal and cinematic origin story of one the most powerful characters in the X-Men universe. Following the airing of Chapter 3, and its cliffhanger climax, we have a look at what might be the most surreal (and visually stunning) chapter of Legion yet.

As you can see, Chapter 4 will be about Melanie Bird's team trying to pull David out of his own mind, where the mysterious Devil With The Yellow Eyes seemingly has him trapped. As such, David will have to navigate his own psyche, which will allow showrunner Noah Hawley to play with the notion of reality like never before. Meanwhile, Section 3 looks to be closing in on the mutants' location.

X-Men comic book fans should be especially excited: some of the most surreal and fun issues of the comics involved psychic characters like Prof. X, Jean Grey or Emma Frost having to take abstract journeys through a fractured or imprisoned mind. Seeing those issues come to life onscreen in life-action (as impressively as Legion has done it so far), is something viewers should be psyched for (pun). Still, we hope this episode begins to answer one question:

Who is The Devil With The Yellow Eyes?

Legion, based on the Marvel Comics by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, is the story of David Haller (Dan Stevens), a troubled young man who may be more than human. Diagnosed as schizophrenic as a child, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. Now in his early 20's and free once again, David loses himself in the rhythm of the structured regimen of daily life: breakfast, lunch, dinner, therapy, medications, sleep. David spends the rest of his time in companionable silence alongside his chatterbox friend Shannon (Aubrey Plaza), a fellow patient whose life-long drug and alcohol addiction has done nothing to quell her boundless optimism that her luck is about to change. The pleasant numbness of David's routine is completely upended with the arrival of a beautiful and troubled new patient named Syd (Rachel Keller). Inexplicably drawn to one another, David and Syd share a startling encounter, after which David must confront the shocking possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees may actually be real.
