Legion Producer Teases Professor Xavier's Appearance

If you have been keeping up with Legion, then you know the show recently dropped a big comic book bombshell on fans. The new series debuted on FX earlier this spring to cautious optimism which has since born pure loyalty. The superhero show has become a hit thanks to its trippy imagery and wit. For many viewers, Legion overlooks many tired tropes of the saturated 'hero' genre and puts its hope in careful aesthetics. Still, that doesn't mean it can't blow away fans with a plot twist or twelve.

However, there is no denying that Legion is inherently connected to the X-Men franchise. If the mutants weren't enough of a signal, then the fact became crystal clear in the latest episode. When Legion last aired, fans learned that David Haller was none other than the biological son of Charles Xavier, a man better known as Professor X. Comic book fans knew this parentage was coming, but some had wondered if Legion would make the revelation opaque.

Well, the show made sure to make it know that Haller was the telepath's powerful son. With the secret out, fans have wondered if Professor Xavier might make an appearance on the series. The desire to see the mutant has only grown since Logan hit theaters, leaving fans bereft as Patrick Stewart bid farewell to his iconic role. But, all is not lost; The executive producer of Legion told press the show won't turn away the X-Men leader if he stops by.

Recently, Noah Hawley spoke to sites such as CBR about the upcoming season finale of Legion. It was there the producer was asked if the show's next steps were to give Haller answers about his father's identity. Hawley agreed with the deduction, but he did admit Xavier's addition would require a lot work.

"I think that's something we're definitely going to approach," Hawley said about Xavier's inclusion. "It's a creative conversation, but it's also a sort of corporate conversation, you know, on some level, in terms of the movie studio and their relationship to the X-Men and the characters they want in the movies and want to protect potentially."

"Were we to want to have Professor X on the show, or even Patrick Stewart on the show, James McAvoy or one of those actors, is a conversation both with the actor and with the studio. So, I don't know, I haven't really dived into that quandary yet, but certainly I need to start thinking about it."

A haunted man, David escapes from the hospital and seeks shelter with his sister Amy (Katie Aselton). But Amy's concern for her brother is trumped by her desire to protect the picture-perfect suburban life she's built for herself. Eventually, Syd guides David to Melanie Bird (Jean Smart), a nurturing but demanding therapist with a sharp mind and unconventional methods. She and her team of specialists – Ptonomy (Jeremie Harris), Kerry (Amber Midthunder) and Cary (Bill Irwin) – open David's eyes to an extraordinary new world of possibilities.

Hawley serves as Executive Producer, along with Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory and John Cameron. Legion is the latest project from Hawley and Cameron, two of the executive producers of the Emmy® and Golden Globe®-winning FX limited series Fargo.
