Dan Stevens Hints At New Powers, Personalities For Legion

The FX show Legion was a pleasant surprise for many X-Men fans, with Noah Hawley taking an obscure character and twisting the expectations to tell a unique story about mental health and perception.

But Legion is still derived from source material, even if it doesn't particularly dwell in the comics that inspired it. In those comics, David Haller AKA Legion has many different personalities, all with their own power sets, making him one of the most dangerous and powerful mutants.

The show only portrayed a few of those abilities (and personalities) in its 8-episode first season, but star Dan Stevens said we're likely to see many more when the show returns for Season 2 during a discussion at San Diego Comic-Con. Check out the video above for the full interview!

"We haven't even really scratched the surface of the number of characters or entities that are contained within Legion," Stevens said to ComicBook.com. "The Shadow King was obviously one of them and a large part. But there's a lot more going on and anyone who knows the comics knows the scope of the world in which its set. So yeah, there's a lot more to dig out of his head."

In the show David is slowly overtaken by the Shadow King, portrayed by Aubrey Plaza, who is using his body for his telekinetic and telepathic powers. When she casts him deep down in his own mind, David finds his way back with the help of another personality — the first in his psyche that isn't a leech like the Shadow King.

It's also distinctly British, much like Stevens himself.

This was probably the first taste of Legion's mind containing more personalities than his own, meaning the floodgates are open now. It'll be interesting to see how his character is affected moving into Season 2.

But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he's confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.

Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey), Rachel Keller (Fargo), Jean Smart (Fargo), Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation), Jeremie Harris (A Walk Among the Tombstones), Amber Midthunder (Hell or High Water), Katie Aselton (The League) and Bill Irwin (Interstellar) star in Legion.

Noah Hawley (Fargo) serves as an Executive Producer along with Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Deadpool), Bryan Singer (X-Men: Apocalypse, Superman Returns), Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Martian), Jeph Loeb (Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones), Jim Chory (Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones) and John Cameron (Fargo, The Big Lebowski). Legion is the latest project from Hawley and Cameron, two of the Executive Producers of the Emmy and Golden Globe -winning FX limited series Fargo.
