Logan Director Teases Black & White Version Of Film

This weekend, Logan will rip into theaters with Hugh Jackman shouldering the superhero movie's weight. The new Wolverine flick is set to send off the star's iteration of Logan as Jackman now exits the role. Of course, the star's final bout with the X-Men will be an unforgettable one for fans, and the team behind Logan have done their best to differentiate it from past titles. Critics agree Logan is in a class beyond that of traditional superhero schticks, and 20th Century Fox has tried to stress that to audiences. Online, social media brought Logan closer to fans as stills from the film were dropped occasionally, and many were intrigued by their black-and-white aesthetic.

And, now, it looks like that motif will be continued on film. Over on Twitter, the director of Logan is teasing fans that a black-and-white version of the film is being worked on.

After being asked by a fan about the possibility, James Mangold was quick to give a blunt answer. "Workin' on it," the director tweeted. Of course, the answer drew attention from across the Internet as fans are anticipating Logan's U.S. debut. The film has earned rave reviews from both critics and press for its gritty story and unapologetic bleakness. So, naturally, a black-and-white remake of Logan would only add to its different tone.

In the past, other blockbusters have been treated to black-and-white remakes with varying success. Most recently, Mad Max: Fury Road was given the treatment to positive reviews. The post-apocalyptic thriller appears to house a similarly dark tone to Logan, so maybe Hollywood has found its black-and-white niche again.

Logan takes place in the year 2029, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan's vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn't seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn't over yet.

Logan stars Hugh Jackman (Logan), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney/X-23), Doris Morgado (Maria), Stephen Merchant (Caliban), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Gabriela), and Richard E. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.

Logan hits theaters on March 3, 2017. If you are excited for the film, then let us know with our Anticipation Rankings below! The movie is currently #3 on all of ComicBook.
